Original Art Posters
Tunng (23 May 2007)
Ever been to a concert you enjoyed so much that you wanted to own the poster?
Here at The Met enthusiastic audience members often ask us for copies of posters - some concert goers are so desperate for them that they don't even bother to ask, and just yank them off the walls! However, our posters are frequently very modest, usually consisting of little more than photographs of the artist in question.
Tobias Froberg (31 May 2007)
This wasn't always true, however! In decades past, venues like The Met would promote their events using beautifully produced posters specially created for them by the most exciting designers of their day. Unique and richly evocative, these 1960s and '70s concert posters are now hotly pursued by music fans and art collectors alike.
One Manchester art gallery is fighting to reverse modern poster design trends, and to restore the art of concert advertising to it's former glory. The Richard Goodall Gallery, based on Thomas Street in the Northern Quarter, has commissioned some of today's leading illustrators to produce vivid original designs for gigs all around Britain and the USA. The gallery is now regarded as Europe's leading centre for poster art.
Working with the gallery, The Met has commissioned posters for three of our events from acclaimed Leeds-based designer and illustrator Matthew Ferres. We're delighted by Matthew's vibrant, witty and and eye catching designs, which are probably the most attractive posters any event at The Met has ever had! Proceeds from the sale of these prints will help The Met in our ongoing fundraising efforts to improve the venue and bring the very best artists to Bury.
Eliza Carthy and the Ratcatchers (27 April 2007)
The posters (show here) advertise concerts from Eliza Carthy and the Ratcatchers, Tunng, and Tobias Froberg. Each A2 (42 x 59.4cm) print has been produced in a limited edition of 100, and is signed by Matthew Ferres himself.
The posters cost £20 each. To order your copies, just call The Met on 0161 761 7107.
Enjoy you very own copies of these striking artworks, and help to support The Met at the same time!
