On Friday 22 May Jon Ronson follows up his critically acclaimed book, So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed, by bringing his hit show, An Evening of Public Shaming, to The Met.
Jon Ronson has spent the past three years with people who have been publically shamed. Whether they’ve made a joke on Twitter that came out wrong or committed a workplace transgression everyone he spoke to had been torn apart by an angry mob and their reputation left in tatters. Having spent time with these people Jon was in the unique position of being able to document the destruction close up, and now he’s here to tell the tale.
‘…as Ronson shows, it [shame] can be a terrifyingly blunt instrument, a cudgel not a scalpel. Wield it too enthusiastically, and the collateral damage is likely to be both grave and enduring.’ The Guardian, So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed Review
Simultaneously hilarious and powerful in the way only Jon can be, An Evening of Public Shaming with Jon Ronson is an illustrated one-man show about the renaissance of public shaming, and our very scary part in it. It’s a follow-up to Jon’s wildly successful book The Psychopath Test, although this time around the crazy people are us. It’s a story about how we’ve become soldiers in a war on human nature and its flaws – and how there’s been an escalation in hostilities.
‘The last time I was at the beautiful Bury Met was to talk about my days in the Frank Sidebottom band. It was a brilliant night. So I’m really excited to be back talking about PUBLIC SHAMING and PSYCHOPATHS and a bit of FRANK too.’ Jon Ronson
Copies of So You’ve Been Publically Shamed will be available to buy for Jon to sign after the show.
Tickets are £16/14 and are available now from The Met box office on 0161 761 2216 or online www.themet.biz
