Bury’s famous Literature event returns for 2014

Internationally recognised literature event Text Festival comes to The Met in Bury with events on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 May.

Bury Text Festival investigates contemporary language based art (poetry, text based artwork, multi-media literature readings), with a focus on the blending of artforms to create groundbreaking new work.

Events at The Met include poet Caroline Bergvall’s ‘Drift’ – a performance mixing multimedia, contemporary poetry, 10th century poetry and an official sea-migrant’s log.

“Thank heaven for Caroline Bergvall, an artist and poet pushing the boundaries of language in a blogged-up and twittering digital world” - The Guardian

More events at The Met feature ‘Sound, Science and Automation’ – an investigation featuring the work of five artists on the new literary possibilities created by modern technology, readings from avant garde poetry list The Knives, Forks and Spoons Press, and a free panel discussion with celebrated international poets and the editor of language art anthology, The Dark Would.

Opening at Bury Arts Museum and Bury Sculpture Centre on Friday 2 May, the fourth Text Festival will run events and exhibitions in venues across Bury into the summer months.

A weekend ticket for Text Festival events at The Met is £18 (£12 for students). Prices for individual events vary. For more information or to book phone 0161 761 2216 or go online at themet.biz/textfestival.
