Comedy adaptation of The Seagull comes to The Met

Clown theatre company Shifting Sands re-invent Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull at The Met in Bury on Thursday 27 February at 7.30pm.

A tragicomedy, rich in unrequited love, jealousy and betrayal, The Seagull was the first of Russian writer Anton Chekhov’s four major plays. Set in the Russian countryside at the end of the 19th century, the story follows a group of characters who are unhappy with their lives – Arkadina, a self-obsessed actress, her son Konstantin and their lovers; Trigorin and Nina.

Shifting Sands’ adaptation focuses on four Chekhov fanatics who begin to emulate the story’s protagonists and discover unexpected comic opportunities.

Shifting Sands’ Artistic Director Gerry Flannagan comments:

I am delighted to be able to retell this classic, it’s one of my favourites and being able to tour it is very exciting.”

Tickets to see The Seagull are £10. For more information or to book phone 0161 761 2216 or go online at www.themet.biz.
