Bury boys The Rocket follow in Elbow’s footsteps with Album Beer

Bury’s favourite hard-gigging teenagers The Rocket launch debut album ‘In Emergency, Break Down’ with their very own beer created by brand-new Bury brewery, Silver Street Brewing Company.

.

Named after Elbow’s ‘Build a Rocket Boys’ – after meeting Guy Garvey in 2011 – The Rocket combine self indulgent lyrics with memorable melodies. Their debut album is the final element of two years of support from The Met; including mentoring, use of Edwin Street Recording Studio, performances at The Met and Ramsbottom Festival and fundraising.

David Agnew, Director of The Met comments: “We are really proud of what The Rocket has achieved and are delighted that our infrastructure in Bury to support new music and art can create such a great result.

Following recent news of Elbow’s second beer, ‘Charge’, The Met linked the band up with Silver Street Brewing Company, a new brewery from the team behind The Met’s catering partner, Automatic. Named ‘Rocket’, the beer is a zesty golden ale with a tropical aroma.

Kieran Sproston, frontman of The Rocket, is certainly pleased with the result: “If Silver St were a person I’d high-five them. It’s actually quite a strange idea when I think about it – I’m legally too young to consume a product with my stamp on. I’m sure my friends will make up for that though.

‘Rocket’ is the fifth ale from Silver Street Brewing Company, which made its debut at Bury Beer Festival in November 2013. The brewery is part of exciting developments at The Clarence on Silver Street which is due to open in September 2014.

The Rocket have already performed in venues across Manchester, The O2 Media Awards, The Youth Sports Festival, the Torch Relay Stage, Edwin Street Showcase and at Ramsbottom Festival. The band finished recording their debut at Edwin Street in January 2014 following a successful WeFund campaign. ‘In Emergency, Break Down’ will officially launch with a performance at The Met on Friday 14 March, supported by Thugs on Wolves and The Collaborators.

‘Rocket’ ale will be available at Automatic and Malt real ale and whiskey bar. Tickets to The Rocket’s launch event at The Met are £6, available from www.themet.biz or by phoning 0161 761 2216.
