New folk collaboration The Furrow Collective comes to The Met

Emily Portman, Rachel Newton, Lucy Farrell and Alasdair Roberts join forces as The Furrow Collective, coming to The Met with debut album, At Our Next Meeting, on Thursday 27 February at 8pm.

Featuring four acclaimed UK folk musicians, The Furrow Collective delve into the obscure world of balladry at its darkest and quirkiest with each singer airing lesser-known gems from their traditional repertoire. Their common focus is to capture the raw edges and fleeting magic of ballads, with storytelling taking centre stage.

An intriguing gathering of four distinctive singers and instrumentalists with a bravely sparse and compelling new take on traditional songs” – The Guardian

Emily Portman has been hailed “one of the new British folk scene’s most beguiling presences” (Uncut). She won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Original Song, Hatchlings, in 2013. Emily and Alasdair are both known for their original, folklore influenced songwriting and, often finding themselves on the same bills they struck up a musical friendship. Lucy and Rachel are both solo artists in their own right as well long-time collaborators with Emily in her trio.

Tickets for the performance are £16. For more information or to book phone 0161 761 2216 or go online at www.themet.biz.
