Folk duo Spiers and Boden investigate Bury’s traditional heritage

Multi-award winning duo Spiers and Boden come to The Met on Sunday 12 May at 8.30pm, playing tunes of local significance suggested by fans as part of the Back Yard Songs tour.

Described by The Guardian as “The finest instrumental duo on the traditional scene”, twice winners of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo and founding members of big band Bellowhead, John Spiers and Jon Boden have made the genre of punky English folk their own stomping ground.

“Taking traditional folk music by the scruff of the neck and giving it a thrilling new perspective.” – The Sun

For Back Yard Songs, Spiers and Boden are inviting fans to suggest traditional songs or dance tunes from the area that they can perform to give the show a more local flavour, as well as taking suggestions for local folk acts to join them on stage in a cameo performance.

The event will also feature Sid Calderbank as support. Sid is the Lancashire dialect performer of songs and stories by Waugh, Tim Bobbin, Laycock and Brierley, as well as a caller for country dances and ceilidhs.

To suggest a traditional song or dance tune for Spiers and Boden to perform at The Met, or a local group from the area for a cameo appearance, go to http://www.spiersandboden.com/backyardsongs/themet.php.

Standing tickets for the event are available at £12 each. For further information or to book please phone the ticket office on 0161 761 2216 or go online at www.themet.biz.
