Irish Folk Band Danu to Perform at The Met

The Met welcomes Irish folk group Danu on Wednesday 15 June at 8pm.

Named after an Irish Goddess, Danu are one of the leading traditional ensembles of today. For over a decade, Danu\’s virtuosi players on flute, tin whistle, fiddle, button accordion, bouzouki and with vocals in Irish and English, have performed around the globe and recorded seven critically acclaimed albums.

They are devoted to their traditional roots, but unafraid to experiment with arrangement, with critics commenting that their music exudes energy and empathy. Their second album, Think Before You Think (2000) was voted Best Overall Traditional Act by Dublin\’s magazine Irish Music. They have been voted Best Traditional Group twice in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, the only band to achieve such a feat. Their version of Co. Down (written by Tommy Sands) won Best Traditional Song in the same awards.

Danu\’s high-energy performances take their audiences on a musical journey to their native Ireland offering a moving and memorable concert experience.

\”Danu remain some distance apart from (and several shoulders above) the majority of their contemporaries.\” Irish Music Review.

Tickets for the show are £16, £14 concession and the show starts at 8pm. Guarantee your place by calling the ticket office now on 0161 761 2216 or go on line www.themet.biz
