The Met is pleased to announce that its application to become one of Arts Council England\’s National Portfolio organisations has been successful and it will be awarded 33% more funding than in previous years.
The support from the Arts Council secures the charity\’s position as a key part of Bury\’s culture and community, based on past work and dynamic plans for the future.
David Agnew, Director of The Met comments, \”We are an innovative charity and have worked hard over the past few years to become central to the community and to the culture of the town. The investment from the Arts Council proves that we are a valued organisation due to our strategic growth and the 33% increase shows that we are a real investment for the future.\”
Not deterred by the recession, past work financed through projects and supporters of The Met include a full foyer and box office refurbishment, a new bar, refurbishment of the small studio and the creation of an additional meeting room.
Future planned work include a recording studio facility, working on new projects and events with theatre companies and other venues and planning community festivals in the borough to help Bury become an attractive destination not only for retail but for culture.
The Met\’s operating costs constitute 30% funding with other supporters including Bury council and Manchester Airport, but the organisation is working hard to become self sufficient through exciting plans for the future.
David adds, \”Although we are extremely proud to be chosen as part of the National portfolio and as a strategic partner for Bury Council, we recognise that some organisations we have worked with in the past have not received funding which will add to the changing and challenging environment for the future of the arts.\”
