The Met welcomes one of the most dynamic Gaelic bands in the UK, Diamh, to celebrate St Patrick\’s Day on Thursday 17 March at 8pm.
Immensely talented with a live energy rarely rivaled, Daimh (pronounced dive) offer a fresh, up to date approach to traditional music. An exciting combination of musicians hailing from Ireland, Cape Breton Island, the West Highlands of Scotland and the ever-innovative Irish/American scene, the band effortlessly blends music from their native traditions with a few more tunes picked up en-route.
The band\’s music is a very high energy, fast-flowing mixture of tunes and songs from the traditions of their countries represented fusing together their individual styles on bagpipes, fiddle, banjo, guitar, bodhran and mandola to create a unique and compelling sound, their music knows no boundaries.
Featuring Gaelic Mod Gold Medalist, Calum Alex Macmillan on vocals, Daimh released their latest album Diversions last year. The event is part of the wider Manchester Irish Festival taking place from 4 to the 20th March 2011.
