"If ever you have need of my life, then come and take it."

A refreshing, clown-theatre adaptation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull. A tragicomedy, rich in unrequited love, jealousy, betrayal and vanity. Hilarious, with an emotional punch.

The Seagull was the first of four major plays by Chekhov - A slice-of-life drama set in the Russian countryside at the end of the 19th century, the story follows a group of characters who are dissatisfied with their lives. Some desire love. Some desire success. Some desire artistic genius.

In this adaptation four Chekhov fanatics leap into action, emulating their favourite characters, Arkadina, the self-obsessed, famous actress, her tormented son, Konstantin, and their lovers.

What starts as a game turns serious. Playing with tragedy has deadly consequences.

Following on from Shifting Sands' Faustus, Romeo & Juliet and Great Expectations, The Seagull re-discovers and plays with Chekhov's ingredients, remaining faithful to the themes of the original.
